'Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time’
Thomas Merton
Welcome to my Gallery Marlene Snee Artist and Printmaker
I am a painter and print maker living in rural Northamptonshire with my husband and our two cats.
I have been creating Art for over 30 years, experimenting with different media and ways to create my artwork.
I recently retired from teaching Art to adults, a role I held for many years, to focus more on my passion for painting and printmaking.
The inspiration for my work comes from my love of nature, my local countryside and some of the wonderful places I have visited around the world.
Most of my work is painted in watercolour, as I am fascinated by the wonderful luminosity of colour and the slight unpredictability of this medium, which makes it very exciting.
A lot of my work is in a colourful, loose and experimental style, which allows me to use my imagination and create art of a more personal nature.
I also love the simplicity and spontaneity of the ancient art of Chinese Brush Painting, which tries to capture the object’s essence and spirit, rather than reproducing an object as it is seen.
I find it a constant challenge, but also a source of great pleasure and satisfaction.
More recently, I’ve been exploring linocut printing - a completely different approach to image-making but just as fascinating. I enjoy every step of the process, from the initial drawing and carving the design into the lino to the stages of printing and the excitement of seeing it all come together in the final piece.
In addition to linocuts, I love working with pastels, acrylics, and mixed media to depict a variety of subjects, including landscapes, flowers, the human form, and animals.
